You don’t have to go overseas to find different cultures as they are everywhere. Countries;
regions; age groups; city or country; financial differences; national groups; white and blue collar
workers; language groups; race and mixed race groups; mixed marriages; singles and first,
second or third generation immigrants. It is important to respect and value others even though
you might not agree with their way of doing something such as cooking, dressing, speaking or
living. Our hope is that they are aiming at or trying to live Biblical values and behavior but we
still need to express love to them if they don’t at the same time not have to accept or agree with
them. Trying to keep up with the changing terms and words to describe groupings or national
area groups can be a challenge where the words you grew up with may not apply or may even
be the exact opposite of your upbringing. I have tried to live in multiple cultures in my own
country and in at least two languages in multiple countries and regions speaking my first or
second language. Trying to bridge into a new language I have tried to guess some words and it
has resulted in unconsciously swearing and speaking the unspeakable. The only thing I can
recommend it learn a new language or dialect by immersing yourself in their language only until
you see why they are insulted by the way you do things in your original language and culture.
That will change your view and cause you to truly appreciate the people, culture and language.
